Mr Thomas Bainton

Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician

Mr Bainton is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. He is an endometriosis specialist with a focus on complex minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery in addition to comprehensive care across obstetrics and gynaecology. He works within the specialist British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) accredited Endometriosis Centre at Chelsea and Westminster.

He studied medicine at University of Oxford and completed postgraduate training in Cambridge and North West London, completing advanced fellowships in endometriosis and minimal access (keyhole) surgery. He undertook a dedicated endometriosis research fellowship at Imperial College London investigating new ways to improve the diagnosis and understanding of the inflammatory basis of endometriosis and continues to lead endometriosis research projects and clinical trials. He has presented his work widely at national and international conferences.

More About Mr Bainton

He has worked extensively in endometriosis advocacy, patient and public involvement and policy. He is a trustee of the national charity, The Endometriosis Foundation and has made appearances in the media as an expert in the field.

His practice focuses on complex gynaecological conditions, with advanced expertise in minimally invasive surgery, holistic endometriosis management and full obstetric, pregnancy and labour care. He supports women through both routine and higher-risk pregnancies, with very broad experience in vaginal and assisted vaginal births as well as caesarean delivery, including complex cases.

He teaches extensively as a lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Imperial College, London in medicine and reproductive and developmental biology. He is a director of the Chelsea Surgical Academy, leading postgraduate training in complex minimally invasive surgery and endometriosis care in London, nationally and internationally.
